Dreads

Those who have been reading my blog for a while know I am quite obsessed with changing my hair. I have had bright red (still my favourite), rainbow unicorn, and most recently an undercut.
So I'm sure it comes as no surprise that I have always had a fascination with Dreads. Ever since I can remember working out what they were, I knew I wanted to have them. I also know there is a stigma around them that they are dirty, smelly, untidy...blah blah. But I also know it doesn't have to be this way- it's all to about how you care for them.
I will get them one day, it's just a matter of when as it needs to be acceptable in my lifestyle (i.e. job). Until then, here are some incredibly gorgeous, well kept, tidy looking dreads- some even look quite glamorous. Click on the pictures to visit their source

How do you feel about dreads? Have you had them before? I would love to hear your experiences.

  1. I've had dreads for 4 1/2 years. Best hairstyle I've ever had, although it is not all plain sailing. If you are really fussy about neat hair, forget dreads. My dreads are organic, ie, they're not made. I stopped combing, brushing and conditioner and voila! First dread began forming 11 days later. There's heaps of information about dreads on the net, so make sure you're informed before you begin. Three pieces of advice I'd give you: 1.Remember that the first couple of years are the hardest. 2.You don't need wax, don't use it unless you really want to and then only sparingly. 3.Everyone's hair is different so what works for one person might not work for the next.

Good luck! I hope you'll post pictures if you do decide to go ahead with it.

Oh, one other thing: my dread journey has happened while I've been a journalist at a mainstream regional newspaper! Most places of employment will be fine as long as you tie your dreads up.

    1. Thanks so much for the tips - they are a huge help! It's all very foreign to me so I'm really grateful for your advice having been there :)
